Working For You

After an initial meeting to discuss your requirements, we will spend some time producing a detailed specification of the software solution that will be created for you, along with a cost estimate. If our proposal is accepted, we will start working on your project, as guided by the mutually agreed upon proposal documentation.

Selected work

Here is a selection of interesting projects that we have worked on since 2004.

  • Capral Limited: daRT

picoSpace has helped improve the efficiency of Capral Limited's aluminium extrusion press at Canning Vale through the development of daRT, an extrusion management system written from scratch by picoSpace for Capral.

The daRT system uses a PostgreSQL database to provide a series of Linux and web-based applications which factory staff use to facilitate Performance tracking, Maintenance management, Scheduling, and Downtime reporting.

The completion of this project in 2013 demonstrates picoSpace's skills in the areas of:

    • Linux development,
    • Database Applications development,
    • HTML5 / Javascript / AJAX development
    • PLC Interfacing
  • Nightkey

NightKey(TM) is a state of the art Identity Management System, which is the first publicly available large scale biometric access control and ID verification system designed for the hospitality industry.

Patrons visiting a venue have their driver's licence scanned and read into a secure database, along with a ''FingerPIN'' derived from a scan of their right index finger. This enables venue operators to know who is entering their venues, and assists security personnel with the identification of barred patrons.

From the start of the project in 2006, until a handover in 2009, picoSpace was responsible for all levels of software development at Nightkey; a significant undertaking starting from the "ground-up" development of the Nightkey system through to deployment and maintenance. The completion of this task demonstrates picoSpace's skills in the areas of:

    • Linux Programming
    • Windows Programming
    • Database Applications Programming
    • Large Systems
    • Systems Integration
  • Stop Announcer (NSW)
    Get it on Google Play

Stop Announcer (NSW) is designed to provide users of the Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) network (including Greater Sydney) with audio notifications of stops on their journey. Designed with the vision impaired in mind, Stop Announcer (NSW) is also very useful for anyone who likes to read, sleep or tune-out while on a bus or train, or has a habit of missing their stop / station.

Destinations can be found either by entering the stop code (provided by TfNSW's journey planner, or found at the stop), or by searching for nearby stops and routes. Commonly used routes can be saved for quick future access.

  • picoPit

picoPit is an application to view cameras and recordings from one or more DVRs. picoPit was orginally designed to be a simple and fast touch screen interface for use by casino gaming pit managers. Features include:

    • Leverages Dallmeier's PView surveillance system,
    • Can be used with touch-screen or standard mouse and keyboard, or a CCTV-style keyboard,
    • One click to select a camera live and another click to start reviewing the camera,
    • Quad view or single camera view,
    • Can select another group of 12 cameras to view,
    • Can select a camera or group from overview maps,
  • Point Finder
    Get it on Google Play

PointFinder is designed to allow visually impaired Android users to save GPS coordinates for Points of Interest (POI). The user can use PointFinder's periodic Text-To-Speech and audio compass features to find the POI. If navigation to the general area of the POI is required (eg. via road or public transport), PointFinder can be used to open Google Maps(TM) to provide navigation to the POI.

Designed from the ground up to cater to the requirements of the blind and visually impaired, PointFinder's audio compass is a continuous sound effect whose pitch gets lower as the user turns to face the POI. PointFinder's interface is high-contrast with large, easy to touch buttons.

  • (WA, Victoria) Speed Camera Alerts
WA Get it on Google Play Victoria Get it on Google Play

Speed Camera Alerts (WA and Victoria) is an Android app designed to provide the user with warnings they they are approaching an area where a speed camera may be stationed.

By converting the user's current location into an address, combined with information provided to the public by the WA Police about daily speed camera locations, WA Speed Camera Alerts provides alerts when the user is currently driving on a road that has a speed camera scheduled for today, near a school that is being targeted, or near a permanent camera that measures speed.

The list of today's cameras can be displayed via a list (the recommended option for low distraction and low data usage), or a map which will follow the user's current location.

  • Bench Helper Android app on Google Play

BenchHelper is designed to help Roller Derby team Bench Managers to manage their skaters. This includes tracking skaters according to their skill strengths, number of penalties accrued and amount of time spent on the track.

A simple web interface standard is also provided, so that team lists can be downloaded directly into the app from user-controlled web sites and web-based services.

Line Ups can be pre-saved to further simply recording during the game. Line Ups can also be downloaded via the web-based interface.

  • Rollerderby: Jam Timer Android app on Google Play

The Emergency Roller Derby Jam Timer app is a virtual Jam Timer designed for Android devices to help reduce the number of Non-Skating Officials required during (WFTDA) roller derby training scrimmages, particularly when there is a shortage of NSOs.

By placing the Android device running this app on prominent display (and potentially connecting the device to a set of amplified speakers), this app is capable of running as a virtual jam timer, performing call off jam and timeout start / stop whistles and verbal warnings when 5 seconds of Line Up time is remaining (i.e. "5 seconds!").

To help facilitate the elimination of a volunteer / NSO position to run Jam Timing, Jam Timer also supports the use of Bluetooth devices such as multimedia adapters and headsets as remote controls to access the various jam control, timeout and official review options. In the case of multimedia adapters, the Next / Previous Track and Play / Pause buttons are used; for supported headsets the volume control buttons are used.
